Birthday video

I'd like to thank Celeste for spending the time to make this - I of course especially like the finger up the nose shot :) but that's just me. Thanks to all for the early birthday wishes!! Onwards and upwards.

Thanks Yara. I'm starting to make a video for Roland but I don't know how I'm going to get it to him since I don't know if he has a computer or not. He's got two teenage boys so he must have a computer.

Papa S and Ro have meant a lot to me since I was 9 years old. The only reason why I never said anything to anybody was because I was always a bit shy to talk about anything that I liked.
I feel like TFF's music has kept me sane considering that my childhood wasn't all that great. My mom and dad were fighting most of the time until they ended it in 83. I got shuttled off to my maternal grandparent's place for an entire year. Then I had this ever growing fear that my mother would leave and never come back for my brother and me.

Just one of those things about parents spliting up and having two young children involved is all of the ill-feelings you have towards them when you're grown. It was like you're being torn between your parents. To hear your parents talking sh-t about each other in front of you. My childhood wasn't exactly an emotionally healthy one.

But I was watching a show called "The Great Record Album Collection" and I saw the video for Mad World. I probably wasn't thinking "hey I can identify with that" at the time but at the time I thought "FINALLY!! Someone who's the same as me!"

I can't wait to show everyone what I've got for Ro's birthday next month. It should be really good. :)

I don't know how I missed this until today! What a nice compilation of photos Celeste! BRAVO for doing such a really nice thing for Papa S and the rest of us. I really enjoyed reliving back to when I started listening to TFF around 1980 or '81. What an evolution in music over the years!! I love it! Can't wait for the concerts....

Lara,

When I think of Tears For Fears fandom I think of it sort of like a kinship. Curt and Roland put out music because it's a form of self-expression for them. When I first heard Change all those years ago, and Shout, it was like they were singing for us. I never felt that way with any of the "other" english acts that were around at the time.
I look at Curt sort of like "the older brother" that I always wanted but never had. He might say that's going a bit overboard but it's the way that I feel about him.
There's nothing wrong with a little bit of band worship and it doesn't really interfere with my life. When it does interfere with my life then I'll stop coming here.

Until that time comes I'll look at Ro and Curt with the very same quiet admiration that I've always looked at them with. ;)

Oops I mean 20+ years later....sorry

Hi Celeste
That truly was a great thing you did for Curt's birthday. I appreciate you sharing it with all of us. Yes only a Tears For Fears fan can identify with how you feel about the music. I remember seeing the video for Change, that's what did it for me... Like you said 30+ years later and I find myself like many others flying to Vegas (with husband in tow) to see a band that has really touched my heart.
Can't wait to see what you do for Roland's birthday.
Lara

There's one more thing that I've accomplished and that I got to tell Curt what TFF's music and his music have meant to me in the 30+ years that I've been a fan of the band. It means a whole lot more to me than anyone can ever imagine.
I've always identified with Tears in some way through their music and I don't think anybody can truly understand what I'm feeling except a Tears For Fears fan.

My childhood wasn't the greatest. My parents split up when I was young, I was about 6 years old, and yet when I turned on one of those old music video TV shows, The Great American Record Collection was one of those shows that I watched when I was young, and I almost always saw a Tears For Fears video at some point. I probably wasn't thinking "hey I can identify with that." But I could probably feel it in my heart that these guys must have gone through some of the same stuff that I was going through at the time.

This was my chance to show what a big fan I am of this band and I did it. Not for the recognition, although getting a thanks from Curt himself was really quite humbling, but because I wanted to show Curt how much I appreciate what he does both with TFF and by himself.

Mission: Accomplished. :)

I hope your birthday was a good one.

And by the way, you set a very nice table.

Best wishes to you and yours,

Carolyn

Happy birthday!
Curt, You and your bass and Roland and his guitar are wizards of music! I'm a 46 years old Materials scientist and when I was younger I used to play with a musical group. Now, listening Tears for fears' songs again...Yes I will by a new electric guitar and I will play again! I'm brazilian and I would like very much if you could come to Brasil! I'm impressed you both are still with you wonderfull voices as you are in 80's and your shows are better and better!
Please, come to Brasil!

Very cool video! Nicely put together Celeste!!! Two solid Shakas Up!!!

Thank you Evangeline. I'm hoping to have another one done by the time Roland's birthday comes around. I don't know if he has a computer at home but with teenagers in his house I don't imagine he'd be without one.

Evangeline..

It's not censorship, it's fear of litigation. How can I best explain it...Let's say you wrote a song. Later you heard the exact same song on the radio performed by someone else. Wouldn't that make you angry - someone took your creation. Where I work we have a system and if someone else takes it and uses it, it means that my company has lost revenue. It would be a wonderful world if we never had to worry about it, but it's not. So websites like youtube have to be very careful or they could be shut down. Like I said, sad but true...

Hope for the hopeless, prayer, faith without anger. We can change the world...

I suppose you're right Suzanne but You Tube has tried to censor me before this and this is what fustrates me the most about it. The first time I disputed their claim it was under "fair use" and "no money being made" and my dispute was successful so I thought that was it.

I don't believe in censorship. Not at all. Yes the label and the artists themselves have the right to protect what's theirs so I asked the label at their You Tube page if there's anything else that I can do to get this video unblocked in other countries short of censoring myself and I've gotten absolutely nothing.

Sorry about that ritienne. You Tube is going copyright crazy. Oye vey I hate that. :p Did you try clicking on the black HQ button in the bottom left hand corner and then clicking on it again? See if that works?

I am very happy that Curt liked it. Very happy indeed. I'll probably make another video for him for his 49th birthday.:)

Nice video Celeste! Alissa - there you are!!! I still need to answer your comments on my myspace...my bad - sorry!!!

As for copyright stuff, speaking from the "youtube" side they have to be on top of it. Part of what I do in my day job is intellectual property - copyrights and trademarks. It's really very easy in this day and age of the internet for someone to steal your ideas. Sad but true. If you don't put your foot down on one, then it makes it hard to fight later. Also, artists, etc., can sue youtube for leaving material up that they know is an infringement so they are careful. Again, sad but true...

Home after minor surgery, so after I get caught up on school (several papers and a bunch of reading) I can get back to Brians comments!

Hope for the hopeless, prayer, faith without anger. We can change the world...

The pics in this video are so cool! :)

Celeste,
"Flip" is from Japan, 1991 (I think!)

I love this video! I love their punims!!! <3

The pic at 8:52 is totally awesome to the max!

I'm curious is Flip a UK release? Because I've never heard that album before.

I really like the picture of Curt swimming and the picture of Curt sunning in his deck chair.

Awesome job Celeste! My fave of Curt is the 2:45 photo! On 1:59, can those jeans go any higher on our dear Roland :), oh well...they'd still look HOT no matter what! 'Hope you had a wonderful birthday Curt!
Rosalie

Just watched!
Nice job, Celeste.

i wish i could see your video,Celeste.but it goes black and"video unavailable due to copyright restrictions in your country"huh?it happens with a few vids on youtube,too....have you an idea why?Still great of you to take the time to make the vid,and Curt liked it so im pretty sure you're happy.take care

Beautiful video and beautiful pics on" Advice for the youg at heart" and "Size of sorrow," congratulation Celeste and Happy Birthday to you Curt........... Have a beautiful day with the family.

Thanks Allison and everyone. There are some pictures there that I hadn't seen before either. The picture of Curt sleeping is one of the rarest ones so far.
I'm really happy that Curt liked it. I was kind of worried about offending him because he mentioned here that Advice isn't one of his favourite songs. But the fact that he likes the video is really a confidence booster for me. :)
