Blog

Welcome

Ah, the thrill of a blank page… even more thrilling when it’s to be filled with the first blog on my new website.

So, what do you think of the new digs? Please roam around, kick the tires, and send me your comments and feedback via the Contact page. Remember we’ve only just launched. As we go along we’ll be fixing dings, adding new features and (of course) updating the content as regularly as possible.

In the meantime, I’m gearing up for the official release of “Halfway, pleased.” By release date (May 20), the album should be available not only on Amazon but on iTunes (worldwide), Napster, Rhapsody, MySpace and others. We’ll add other retailers as we go, and you’ll always find the links on the Music and Store pages here.

We’ll also be adding a few products that you can only buy from my site. One of them will be a deluxe edition of "Halfway, pleased.” We’re just in the design phase now, but it will be a beautiful limited-edition package with an expanded booklet, and each one will be signed and numbered by yours truly.

It’s a fascinating process to be doing this on my own. We’re at a point, technologically speaking, where there are no barriers to entry in the music marketplace. Any artist can readily record, mix, and master his or her music. Add a few more mouse clicks, and you can have the tunes available for sale and/or download, at minimal expense and without a “label” in sight.

So with no barriers to creation or distribution, the real challenge in today’s marketplace is generating awareness and sales. Without a massive marketing budget, that’s quite a challenge indeed. I’ll be doing my bit – blogging, promoting, POSSIBLY a few gigs (although that’s its own challenge, with two young kids in school).

But in essence, it’s you, my KOOKs, who are the marketing team. That’s right, you. I’ll do another post soon (so make sure to check back often, or better yet, subscribe to the blog feed) with more info on how you can help, should you be so inclined.

In the meantime, welcome…

Egg to the zone,

Papa S.

Not sure if my comment worked so...

I'm so glad about this new site! YAY!!!
Thank you Curt!
You are the best! xxxx

Can we all do a Mexican wave..for Curt....everybody...1,2,3 now! hehehe

I just looked at the photo for the Alexander McQueen opening (who is this Jason? I don't know him) but I DO know the face of Curt Smith! How wonderful he looks...healthy, fit, very happy!

On Tuesday, the 20 of May, that will be Curt Smith night at our house :) Put on his music, take off your shoes, invite your friends...invite the neighbors, then you can play the music louder! Then start dancing and celebrating. We all cannot be in Los Angeles but party wherever you are on that night...let all of your hair down :D

Curt knows that I'm a little bit crazy :) but he knows I love him and all of the Smiths. So get ready for this night everybody and party like Eva! XOX

Hello Curt! wonderful new website! It is great that the fans can get more involved and interact with you than ever before.

Two more thumbs up for giving the camera to Diva and Wilder. I think it's a great idea. :)

Love the new site Curt. It's user friendly, fresh and very cool.

Looking forward to the CD release. ~Karen

Oh, giving the camera to the girls is a fabulous idea! What fun! Two thumbs up for that!

I agree with Suzanne entirely, for everything she has said. The color palette is soothing for the eyes and so you want to stay here to read.
But I want to say, Curt, that although I very much like the photos by Ms. Ungaro, I find them repetitive. Too much of the same situation, lighting, etc. I would love to see more candid photos, maybe with other people....friends, family. How about you give the camera to Diva and Wilder? I have always said that when love is behind the lens, it comes out in the photo! And children see it so differently, to snap the picture at a different time. So say to them, "Take some pictures of Papa" and put them here from time to time. We would love to see them. X

I like the new site. The colors are pleasing, the style is gently funky without being annoying, and there are minimal clicks to get to what you want to see. The comments availability makes it very user-friendly. I see it becoming potentially very interactive, which will appeal to newcomers who stumble upon it. It doesn't have the intimacy of MySpace, unfortunately (example, the "Fans" section has a list of Q&A, but no names are attributed to the Qs as they are with MySpace), but I suppose this is to be expected within the larger scope of a standard website. It still is more interactive than most fan sites, which is nice. I look forward to watching it evolve over time.

It looks great, how exciting! Can't wait for the New Album to go on sale here.
