So...

...personally I thought last night went swimmingly well. It was nice to see the Kooks that turned up. Add that to a bunch of old friends and you get a very relaxed evening of banter and (dare I say it) good music. A word of warning to those of you yet to attend - the event is 7pm to 10pm, that doesn't mean I'll be playing for three hours. I do two thirty-minute sets and DJ Darren Revell from Indie 103 in LA is playing music the rest of the time (he has a very cool show called Big Sonic Heaven).

What I appreciated most was the opportunity to explain song meanings and chat more than I would normally. The intimate setting allows me to do that as I don't have a spotlight in my eyes which means you can't see anyone and are consequently talking to yourself. It's certainly different for me and as they say - "variety is the spice of life" (or is that cinnamon?).

All that having been said, I'm now comfortable announcing that it's certainly an enjoyable experience and I encourage you to get your Kooky behinds down there and join in.

PS Favorite buzzword of the evening - bipublican. Annoying person of the evening - Bill Maher (he was just damn rude when I told him I admired his work).

PPS If you decide to come down to The Standard, don't be discouraged if you're told all the tables are booked up. The Cactus Lounge opens up to the pool deck, where there are plenty of chairs and tables available on a first-come first-served basis. And if you DID reserve a table, make sure to show up around 7 to claim it; otherwise it might be given away.

So...... who won the wonderful opportunity to have lunch with you then????
Mcdonalds or Burger King??? LOL

So....?
Any jerkfaces or anything memorable to point out from this week's gig?

Except for Bill Maher being a jerkface, I'm so glad to hear the show went well!

Really looking forward to seeing Curt play live again at the Cactus lounge. The halfway pleased release party was really great and the opportunity to hear more songs live from the new album in an intimate small venue setting is just so special.I am very lucky to live so close to these venues !I will make sure to be there by 6pm to secure our spot.

. . . . and we left our vehicle 70 miles away, took advantage of Metrolink rail and underground rail system Redline. Once we got to Union Station, we transfered to underground via the Redline to Hollywood, Gregory and Emma enjoyed the journey!

Sheila,
Since you're coming out to Los Angeles, you may want to attend Wicked the musical production at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood? We recently attended the 2:00pm show on a Saturday, truly an amazing show to say the least!

Would love to go if I was there!
(On a side note, just wanted to mention here that the Tears for Fears concert I went to here in Chicago for your ELAHE tour a few years back was awesome! You guys were great! )

If I wasn't in school, I'd happily make the drive down there.

Curt---glad it went so well at the Cactus Lounge !! Hope we can make it out but with kids & school, Tuesday nights don't sound possible to make the 5 hour drive =( Maybe you can YouTube a show for us faraway KOOKS.

Sorry to hear about Bill Maher--he is apparently full of himself. My husband and I were just talking about how you'd be a perfect panel member on his show. Now I don't think he deserves your intelligent wit, although we the viewers would appreciate it !!

P.S. The voter registration drive last weekend was GREAT & extended our efforts 2 more days -- over a hundred people registered in a couple of days !! We double checked IDs and tried to make certain everyone was legit.

My Kooky behind (along with Mark's and a special friend's) will be there on the 28th, have my table reserved, and of course this Kook will be there early!!!

Sheila

I had a great time Curt! Was that jab at me because I was hoping you'd play for 3 hours? I guess it was just wishful thinking....I won't give you grief for ending at 9:34pm...ha ha ha... BTW, where was Bill Maher? I didn't see him anywhere.....See ya on Tuesday again! :) Thanks for posting my pictures too!!

Eileen
xxoo :)

Glad you enjoyed your gig, Curt.

Dang, wish i lived in CA......I would SO be there on Tuesday nights.

Carolyn

Glad the musical outing when well, even if Mr Maher was rude. I get the feeling that is not an atypical occurrence.

Sorry for the website woes last night everyone... took us a few hours to find and fix the issue, but everything should be hunky dory now!

I'd like nothing more than to get my kooky behind down there, as you know, C.
But as I'm on the other side of the country, it ain't gonna happen a second time...
Why don't you get YOUR Kooky (and adorable!) butt over here to the East Coast? ;)
*blows a kiss*
