Putting down the guitar for a second

I thought I'd pop in and say hi! I'm aware that some of you Kooks get a little antsy if you don't hear from me but I'm at the least blog-worthy part of a new project. i.e. writing and attempting to find an interesting direction for the new material. Right now I'm feeling simple and quirky :)

Outside of this process things are good on the home front. I can't believe the school year is coming to a close, it's gone so fast. Each year there is a class project for the kids, so tomorrow I will be at the 3rd grade Hopi/Chumash social studies play and in two weeks the 1st grade Earth Gallery. I love these end of year events as it shows me just how much my kids are learning and growing.

Frances has been traveling a lot lately due to store openings in NY and the UK but thankfully that's starting to slow down.

Don't forget the McCabes gig on Saturday May 16th in Santa Monica. It will be the same set up as The Standard, intimate and ever so slightly amusing. Even if you can't make it you could always notify friends and/or message boards.

TFF live album is coming along nicely and sounding great, hopefully we'll have finished it before the summer tour. iTunes are also attempting to put together a TFF tribute album of covers done by up and coming bands, the proceeds of which will go to charity. We received the first track yesterday and it sounds amazing. On that note I shall leave you dangling :)

More soonish........

I for one was pretty excited to hear that the artists may be covering more of the "Deep Cuts." God knows we've heard more than our share of people covering "Mad World" (seriously, this is beginning to be covered almost as much as "Yesterday," not a bad thing, though), Shout ("Weird Al" polka medley, anyone?), Everybody Wants to Rule the World ("Punk Goes the 80s" version by JamisonParker was an inspired and successfull re-working, Gloria Gaynor's not so much IMHO) and Head Over Heels (of which I highly recommend checking out the slightly bizarre version doneby Samamidon). Not that there's anything wrong with covering the hits, I think it's an exciting project regardless of what gets covered, but the idea of songs as obscure to the casual fan as "Ideas As Opiates" getting covered makes that much more interesting (and no doubt more challenging to the musicians). Well, just as long as no one decides to try and tackle "Ghost Papa!" And yes, it's great to know the proceeds are going to such a worthy cause!

My grandfather had Alzheimer's. Very happy to read that the Itunes album will be benefitting research.

It's great that proceeds are going to Alzheimers research. Ideas as Opiates is a tough one...wonder how they'll do?!? I also wonder what other bands will be featured in this!

Wasn't sure where it was most appropriate to post this, but I came across this article, which is an interview with an LA band called the Robotanists that I *think* most KOOKs will appreciate for a slight nugget of TFF-related information...http://beatcrave.com/2009-06-23/robotanists-interview-know-your-la-bands/

(For those who loathe rearding, scroll towards the middle, the question "What are Robotanists presently working on?" )

is a new live album by TFF? Hurray

Curt, TFF, great music,

Thanks for the article link, Carolyn! It is a good read.

I like how in that article, they spell Orzabal like 12 different ways... my favorite : Orbizal

Don't know where to put this......http://www.retroland.com/pages/retropedia/music/item/1668/

But thought you might enjoy it, Curt.

Thanks for the link, Celeste!

Here's Roland and the card catalog drawer from hell. First he pulls the drawer off of its tracks and then he smiles and says "Um I think I broke the drawer guys," and then he can't open the drawer at all and he starts laughing. It seems like that drawer became Roland's nemesis.

Hi Guys! Just watched Curt's interview ( again) with Kevin Pollak !I really love the little introdution theme Curt wrote for his show!! Yes ,it must of been really hard to think of something rhyming with " Pollak" ?? ;p I'am locked away in my hospital room , having radiation treatment ,to make sure all those cancerous cells have gone!!!
I had my treatment yesterday, which was just a tablet , I thought "hey this isn't so bad"? Got my own room ( no noisey wards with bleeping machines , or patients trying to get in my bed!!) huge tv , computer endless tea & coffee ,my own bathroom and .... leaded walls!!
Until I woke up this morning with golf balls in my neck!!!!! I look like a hamster on steroids!!!

Anyone for radioactive scrabble???

Thanks for sharing Tears For Fears on the Trail of Tears, stephen! It completely cracked me up. You might also enjoy Zoing the Seeds of Love

Wasn't sure where to post this, but found this TFF/Travel Channel spoof on YouTube:

It's, uh, interesting? Not quite as funny as the "Literal Head Over Heels," IMHO. Worth a looksy though if you have 2 or 3 minutes to waste...

I know exactly what you mean, Donna! :D

Yeahhhhhhhh! More TFF on American Idol tonight!!!! Makes me proud too , like a Mother-hen protecting and tending her babies!! I'm so passionate about You and Roland, Curt,, and I thought Adam Lambert did awesome on Mad World!! I was tickled pink, because I really do like him alot and think he deserves to win! I'm still waiting for my ship to come in so I can come and see you two in Nevada! Cross you fingers and say a prayer for me! Love to you guys, barby.

I was so proud!!! What crazy emotions I had when I heard EWTRTW tonight on Idol.
It's like I'm a TFF parent or something, I don't know... =)
Do ya know what I mean?
Donna

Yay who watched American Idol and heard "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" played while Kris made his homecoming!?! So awesome, geesh! TFF should just play on the show already! So many TFF references this season! I bet that made Diva and Wilder smile as they watched with their dad...

Carolyn,

I just watched Curt's interview this past Sunday (KP), I thought it went extremely well and I like the fact that Kevin said he only scratched and would like to have Curt on again. The karaoke question was interesting, Curt I think you should come down to Dimples over on Olive Ave in the City of Burbank next to Warner Bros, NBC Studios to do the all time mother lode on EWTRTW!

Carlos,

Come into the Tweet world. :)

I must be the only Angelino who doesn't tweet. One can only imagine what the extra F is for in TFFF?

"At Shabby Road recording today. Not much to tweet about. Had any idea for a twitter TFF tee for tour - OMG it's TFFF :) Marketing please!"
