Day 5

Yesterday was a relatively uneventful day news-wise due to an early show (6pm) and an afternoon spent following a text report of the Manchester United game. This was due to the fact that we were told they could get the game on TV in the hotel bar, unfortunately when it came to kick-off time there was no-one in the hotel who knew how to change the channels. Frustrated, Roland and I returned to our rooms to follow the BBC text of the game. At least the result was satisfactory (1-0 to United), and yes Karst I still believe United will win the league!

By the time the game was over there was only 40 minutes to kill before driving the 50 miles to Oberhaussen for the show, so no sightseeing today.

Maybe today I should tell you a little about the show line-up. The Angels In Harlem choir? Fantastic and inspirational, watching them perform and having them sing on our songs is truly a highlight. 10cc? Probably the main reason we agreed to do this leg, Roland and I are big fans (especially "Deceptive Bends"). Kim Wilde? Can't say I've been a huge follower of her musically but she's incredibly sweet and down to earth and has kids roughly the same age as mine. Dennis De Young? Being from the UK I was never that familiar with Styx but when he performed the songs suddenly I realized I knew them all, I'll forgive him for Mr.Roboto as he's one of the funniest guys you'll meet. Robin Gibb? I'll plead the 5th on that one.

The show last night was the best yet as we're starting to become more relaxed with the new elements, so by Hamburg we should be up to par! The highlights of the night were probably Robin Gibb saying "thank you Cologne", but I'll stop there - "if you don't have anything nice to say" etc., and my introduction of Roland as "Herr Orzabal" and myself as "(not so much) Herr Schmidt". Boy did we laugh - which was good, as the audience had no idea what I was talking about.

After the show we drove the 50 miles BACK to Cologne and I returned to my room to video conference with the family. I finally tracked them down via Frances' cell phone at a Krispy Kreme in the Valley taking a respite from Christmas shopping, so I'll have to make do with just a vocal goodnight tonight. It's still relatively early so I return downstairs to the bar and spend half an hour chatting with Kim's band and manager about football and American politics before calling it a night around 11.30.

Tomorrow is a day off.

What's up with the Gibb remarks? I'm only 31, but find the Brothers Gibb to be incredible song writers and musicians. It would be an honor to work with them. Is it just that Robin is a bit of a diva or something? He always seemed to be the most down to earth of the Gibbs.

Hi Curt,
Kim Wilde is touring with you? - i thought she was doing daytime Gardening Shows now??? lol

Is Robin Gibb the one Justin Timberlake does an impression of on SNL??? Hahaha. Can't help but laugh just thinking about it.

Sounds like a strange mix of musicians. Would have liked to hear about someone being there like Crowded House or Howard Jones. That would have made more sense musically I think. You and Roland are the only ones that do make 'sense' !

"Herr Orzabal"............hahahaha!!!

10cc? You'll be wearing cardigans next. ;)

Wow. Dennis DeYoung, cant say I am a fan of the styx either, although if one of the songs come on I might sing to it, I LOVE his song, Desert Moon though. If you listen to the words, it is something we can all relate.
He is funny from what I know in interviews. But I like Desert Moon. I hope you and Roland have a good time and bond even more than you already do. It is almost like a marriage with you and Roland. You have been together FOREVER. And it takes ALot of hard work. But I cant ever imagine life without the 2 of you together EVER AGAIN.
Although I have met Roland breifly, I would always lean toward him back in the old days, but he is so distant, that i feel closer to you, curt. Like a long distant friend. You are accessible to all of us and try hard to create ways to interact with all of us.
That takes alot. Especially some of the things that go on in here, like getting after your kids or something. But, there are no words to thank you or describe how impressive and wonderful it is, what you are doing. When it comes to fans.
You are smart, sweet, caring, you carefully listen to things fans say in person. You are talented and just as much wanted as Roland, Maybe more. You are amazing and I thank God, or whoever, that a dream of an 11 year old to meet you, now became the reality of an almost 36 year old woman of not only meeting you, but being able to get to know the man behind the band and somewhat of a friend, atleast on my side.
Thank you, curt.

Hi,only 6 days until the Erfurt concert! JEEP!!! So long we've waited for you in east germany. When I was sixteen years old (1983) and TTF heard, I thought you never see them. How has the world changed. And now there are no more limits (borderlines and walls) and everything is possible. I am happy.

Is Robin Gibb an ass? I'm just curious as to what he said...I like the BeeGees though lol. As for the Herr stuff (and you not so much?) I have no idea what you are talking about either. So Roland still has the long hair, eh? Well, that's ok because I am just so happy to finally see him again...missed him! I hope he is doing well and is genuinely happy (or at least content!) All the best for your next shows. Have fun out there, everything should be light-hearted and easy going at these kind of shows...enjoy these times!

All my love,
Allie G. from LI, NY :D

Enjoy your day off!
Sheila

I wish you and Roland all the best on your NOTP tour. Enjoy!

What a nice way to start my day! Back to work for me after a week off.

Sounds like an interesting bunch you're performing with! I remember listening to 10cc songs driving to the beach the 2 summers we lived at the Jersey Shore. They always bring back the salt air/salt marsh smell and sound of the beach.

Ok, I'm off - got to be on time!
