catching up
As promised, just because I'm now twittering doesn't mean I'll stop blogging. Twittering = fewer words more often; blogging = more words less often. It's all good, as they say. If you want to follow me on twitter, start here: http://twitter.com/curtsmith.
So, the first two shows at The Standard Hollywood are now behind me, I hope those who have been there (hello Eileen, Sheila, Hermest, Justine, to name a few) will agree a good time has been had by all. Some Twitterers (tweeple?) came all the way from Las Vegas to see the show last night - that would be Mike and Danny - and there was even somone there who had been at the NOTP show in Cologne! Anyway, if you took pictures and want to share, you can send them to us at csow (at) curtsmithofficial (dot) com and we'll put them online. We prefer 800x600 (or 600x800) and 72dpi (in other words, web resolution).
There are two shows left, on the 18th and 25th. The room tends to fill up so do call The Standard to book seats if you haven't already. The number is (323) 650-9090 x2921. If they tell you the Cactus Lounge is all booked, that's okay, ask for a seat on the deck which is lovely and you can see and hear just fine from there. And sometimes people cancel at the last minute so you're able to move to a seat in the Lounge after all.
The set list last night was the same as the one Arlene posted for the first week, although I did add Keane's "Somewhere Only We Know" (thank you for the suggestion Yara) to the beginning of the second set. We had literally only rehearsed it moments before, during the break between sets, but as it was fresh in our minds I was prevailed upon by Charlton and Doug to give it a try. It went rather well, if I do say so, and may be a keeper. We got a request for "Snow Hill," but both a shortage of time and the fact we hadn't rehearsed it meant we weren't able to work it in. Maybe next week...
There seems to be quite a buzz about the planned TFF West Coast tour this summer. This is NOT an official announcement, as contracts haven't been signed yet so far as I know and therefore things are subject to change. So with those caveats in mind, here are the likely dates:
July 10 - Seattle, WA
July 11 - Portland, OR
July 14 - Santa Rosa, CA
July 15 - Saratoga, CA
July 17 - Costa Mesa, CA
July 18 - Las Vegas, NV
July 20 - San Diego, CA
We'll probably also play in Vancouver either July 9 OR 12 - not clear yet. When everything is confirmed I'll post the news here. Before you ask - I don't know when the on-sale dates will be, you'll need to contact the respective venues/ticket agencies for information about when and how to get them.
In other news: those of you who frequented my previous website may remember that along with the lyrics, I included short stories about "Perfect Day" and "Halfway Pleased" as well as explanations of the lyrics. They're now rightfully restored to place here, along with the previously unpublished story / explanation for "Coming Out." Just go the pages for those tracks (in the "Music" section), the stories and such are beneath the lyrics if you scroll down.
Bella has been gone at puppy boot camp and will return shortly, more pictures of her once she's back. The house has been very quiet without her, but she was allowed a "home leave" visit the other night and the skills and control she's attained in a very short time away are remarkable.
I'm thrilled as you can imagine that Manchester United are atop the Premier League. I'll be glued to the screen as usual when they play Fulham next Wednesday (luckily, it won't conflict with my show). Hm, perhaps a good reason to rehearse "Snow Hill"...
Until next time.

Maybe I can do that Allison but then I have members of my family in Vancouver that I really don't want to deal with. It's unimportant who it is. It's a long story but I'd rather not be anywhere where family has a good chance of finding me.
And for the record Toronto is in Ontario, that used to be my home for the first 12 years of my life and I miss it, and now I'm in Cobourg, which is a hick town in between Toronto and Kingston, and Vancouver is in British Columbia out west.

This is cool news. :) Thanks for the dates Curt. :) Assuming that my bank hasn't been taking anything out of my pockets in interest I'll try to be there as much as the idea of flying in from Toronto scares the living sh-t out of me..

Curt, thank you for the advance notice of the possible TFF gigs this summer. This gives me some time to save up and add to my TFF account and find the best hotel/air deals. Ever since I saw you guys in Vegas last time, I have been putting away a few dollars whenever I can in hopes of getting another chance to see TFF again. 5 bucks here, 2 bucks there, an unexpected windfall like a bonus at work....it all has gone into the TFF fund. And now I know that I haven't been saving in vain. This time, I am planning on bringing my youngest daughter (who is 16). She has never been on an airplane, or been to a concert, or even been out of Missouri. Last night I asked her if she would like to go to Vegas with me to see you guys and you should have seen her smile....it was radiant. Made my heart melt. She hugged me and said, "You really want ME to go with you to see them?" I told her that I couldn't think of anyone I would rather go with. Now granted, she isn't as big of a TFF fan as I am, but she knows how much TFF's music means to me, and I am honored that she wants to go and give it a chance.
Anyway, thanks.........and please let us know as soon as possible when the details are finalized? There are at least two women...one 16 years old and the other 51 years old, who are waiting to make concrete plans for a Mother/Daughter trip to see you and Roland do what you both do so well.
Carolyn
For those of you who can't make it to the west coast shows I'll see if I can bring my mother's laptop with me so I can blog about it.
My mother said to me as I was looking for flights from Toronto to San Diego "Where are you going?"? and I said "To San Diego." Then she asked me "who do you know in San Diego?"? and I said "Tears For Fears is going to be doing a concert in San Diego." Then she said "I thought you don't fly?"? and I said "Sometimes sacrifices need to be made."
But there is an issue of having to get a Canadian passport. Ugh! It's going to be such a hassle since I'm only going to use it once this year. Twice if they land in L.A. on my birthday.

Hi everyone!
Nice to meet you on Wed night, Papa S! Your daughters are beautiful-
I thought the Keane and Coldplay covers were fantastic - please continue to play them during your sets.
Also wanted to send a shout-out to my buddy Eileen - I was able to take the 501st-504th + photos of her with Curt - and they turned out great!
Debbie
Oh my!! so many dates to choose from.......I know that I would at least try to make it to two of them!
Thank you Curt for the great show on Wednesday!!! Hope your babysitter didn't get mad at you for being late.......
Sheila
I wouldn't trust Ticketmaster with my dog. They charge exuberant amounts of money for event tickets that you can just as easily buy at the venue box office for a lot less money than they charge. After they pulled that sh-t on The Boss, who is perhaps the biggest name in show business, I wouldn't pay them a dime of my money. :p

Gotta Love LA!!! He He!!! Finally "Snow Hill"!!! Yeah!! Oh and maybe "Halfway Home" next gig Curt??? Good time Curt?? Just look the pictures on Shiela's , Eileen's, and my myspace. We had a blast!!! Summer is in the bag!!! Finally I hope to meet Roland this time. Hey Curt, don't tell Roland about the thing with my childhood buddy of us both wanting to be like Curt and not Roland. I like Roland too. LOL
Hurrah, this is such great news! West Coast, here I come this July!
And to all those who are afraid you won't be able to catch the tour - my fingers are crossed for each and every one of you! I hope the money, the time, and whatever else you need to make it happen will come your way.
Wow Curt, that's great news!! but I am so sad!! I probably won't be able to make it out to the West Coast but I will remain ever hopeful. I'd just like to see you guys just once, just once and I would be satisfied. I understand the $$ issue Suzanne. I am having work-issues and am terrified of losing my job.
Donna
I said I'll fly out west, and it looks like I'll get the opportunity to do so! I am so happy and thankful! Very excited! Thank you so much TFF and all the gang and crew that go along with the TFF family. This really means so much to me. :)
SIGH!!!!! Don't you need to come east to visit friends or something?
Ok, maybe some really good affirmations putting me on the west coast this summer...oh crap, it'll never happen since hubby won't go for it (not a fan), money is a bit tight and I'll be in the midst of 2 more classes for college... ok, back to positive thinking, I'll fall into the needed cash, classes will be online so I won't miss anything and someone will smack hubby in the head and tell him to be nice about it...
I can dream, right?

Curt thanks for the very nice and EXCITING update. A TFF tour this summer is totally do-able from where I am & a little time for saving travel/ticket dollars is much appreciated!
I'm glad the Keane song worked out for you! I would LOVE LOVE to hear you sing it live. How I wish I could escape one of my rehearsals. I'm in about 50 of the 60 something pages of script and our shows start March 20th. My director would be beyond upset. But...it's so tempting to attend one of the last Standard shows! *** long sigh ***
Have fun at the Standard and thanks for working on the TFF tour! Say thanks to Roland for us all !
