Calling Five KOOKS
I've been persuaded (it wasn't all that difficult, actually) to be honored with a small party to celebrate the release of Halfway, pleased. It'll take place here in Los Angeles on the evening of Tuesday, June 10. During the festivities I'll do a few brief acoustic sets, with Charlton and Doug there to accompany me.
I wish I could invite each and every one of you to attend, but the space is quite small and the number of guests strictly limited.
However, I'm setting aside five spots on the guest list for fans, each of whom can bring a guest of his or her own. One caveat: you and your guest must be 21 or over (rules of the establishment, don't yell at me).
If you're interested in attending, here's what to do:
- Send an email to june10@curtsmithofficial.com saying you'd like to attend the June 10 event. Please include your name and daytime phone number. We must receive this email by 5pm PST on Tuesday, June 3.
- We'll put all the names received by the deadline into a hat, and Diva and Wilder will pick five at random.
- Someone from my team will promptly contact those whose names are selected. You must confirm that you do indeed plan to attend, and provide the name of your guest if you're bringing one.
- If you're unable to attend after all, or we can't confirm your attendance by end of day on June 6, we'll offer the invitation to the next name drawn.
That's about as fair as we can make it. Again, I wish you could all be there, but I'll blog about it afterwards and I'm sure there will be plenty of photos to post as well.
And before you ask, since I know you will: the circumstances that led to this party happening are rather unique. I know that many of you do not live in or near Los Angeles and would be unable to attend even if the number of guests were unlimited. You've all been amazingly supportive and it would be lovely to celebrate with you in your own city or country - but as I've no current plans to tour, that's not in the cards at the moment. Obviously you'll all be the first to know if that changes!

My name was drawn as 1 of the 5 ! I can hardly believe that I'm sitting here in the year 2008 and Curt Smith whom I have been a fan of since his days with TFF all the way from Channel Z cable video where I 1st heard their music and identified closely to it along with several of my close friends as a 14 year old with Richard Blade as the host around 1983 with Mad World and Change singles from the Hurting and then Songs From The Big Chair and finally The Seeds Of Love album .106.7 will always be my all time favorite radio station and TFF my favorite band ! I can't wait to see Curt play the new stuff live ! My best friend since those early 80's days I stopped by to tell about the show on Tue. and I hadn't seen him for a few years and he had a copy of ELAHE and it is one of his newer cds that he really enjoys listening too , I turned him onto Curts new c.d.Can't wait for June 10th
Oh I wish I was 21!!! Blast it! 2 years off! :(
Mr. Smith!! I got my tattoo finally... I had "Tangerine" tattooed on the back of my right shoulder.. I was wondering if I could have you sign the other shoulder and I can get it tattooed in? Or send a copy of your signature so I can have them copy it onto my back?
Here's a picture of what it looks like! Proof that you guys have made a lasting impression for the better on my life..

June 10th is on a Tuesday....
If the get-together was on a Friday or a Monday, I might have been able to throw my name in the hat.
Vacation days and sick days combined with the weekend ya know.........:)
Again, I'll be there with the Kooks and you, Curt, in spirit.
Stay Safe and Hugs to you and yours...
Carolyn
Self-employed, so days off aren't a problem. Hubby has no problem with it. Mom would watch the kids. When it's simply a matter of that which makes the world go 'round--money--it's like a knife in the heart. Unless I win Powerball tomorrow night, and I just bought a ticket, my name won't be in the hat. I suppose it's just as well. Dreams are usually better than reality, anyway... I'll have to hope that you, Dear Curt, will keep us fanatics here on the East Coast in mind, and take a little pity on us, and give us a realistic chance. New York wouldn't be so hard, would it? And a bit of lead-time could make all the difference. Have a nice party. I'll be recovering from minor surgery (no need to reschedule...) Bruised and torn, Eggy
I would give my left arm to go to this. However, given the distance and time involved, expense of a last minute airline ticket, taking off of work and actually getting my family to agree to letting me go away by myself again (cause I'm on vacation without them right now...right Kim?) I can't in good conscience take someone else's chance to go. Sucks, I have to say. But I guess this gives us your persepctive on not wanting to tour - family, time, expense. But you know we'd be there! So maybe one date (with more warning) on the east coast and that would be a bit closer. I think I could talk Kim into coming further north for that!

Suzanne Olden (Curt's Pampered Kook!)
Ugh. Suzanne and I are both sitting here, in my kitchen. She is visiting me in Florida this weekend...Congrats on the album release party!
We both wish we could come. I remember the days of jumping on a plane or in the car and driving to see Curt in NYC. He was wonderful and gracious each time. Now, a decade later, we are mommies, wives & full time employees on the opposite side of the USA. &^%$#. Needless to say, it isn't as easy to jet off like we used to. I am still open to seeing Curt-just a little more time & planning is needed. I am off to sulk now. Maybe Suzanne will cheer me up. Now where did i put my wine? dammit...dammit....

Curt's KOOK
Arggh, reading all these comments makes me even more upset. I do live close and could realistically get there but my husband is having surgery and I can't leave him. Ughh, the one time I actually have a chance at something...
Julie
OH...MY....GOD!!! You truly are amazing!! A chance in a lifetime and I can't go because I've just come out of hospital ,recovering from pneumonia!!! Arrrggghhhh!! Despite the fact I live in England ,I' am sure I would of found a way to get there!! :(
Have a great night you lucky ,lucky 5 kooks!! And Curt enjoy the party! you deserve it!!
It would be so cool if I could attend! If I had the money to fly their, and was 21, I would actually send my name in. XD Unfortunately, I'm not 21 until 4 months after this...
Good luck to everyone eligible and able! This sounds like a fun little thing party.
What a spiffy idea! Truly, Curt, you are a generous person to set aside spots for fans and their companions. Oh, to be in the same room as one of the lucky duck Kooks when he or she receives the call!
Have a fantastic time at your celebration. You deserve it, and you most certainly won't be wrong when you say, "I'm kind of a big deal." ;]
If there was any way I could get the days off from work needed to fly out to LA, and deal with the logistics involved (hotel, rental car, etc), I would most certainly put my name into the hat. But with such short notice, I regret I can't. I will be there in spirit with the lucky KOOKS that get the honor of being able to celebrate HP's release!
Curt, this is a very nice thing you are doing for your fans. :)
Hugs, and love to you and your family,
Carolyn
What a wonderful idea, Curt!! Very cool to have Diva and Wilder pick the names!
I cannot attend, so I won't be sending an e-mail, but my thoughts will be with everyone who attends.
Looking forward to the pictures and blog,
Stay Safe,
Carolyn
