About last night...
... my release party at the Motley Bird Nest was more fun than even I expected. I'll write more about it later, and post some photos, but my girls' step up to their next grade at school is today so first things first. I'm sure that the KOOKs who were there - Anitra, David, Katy, Kent and Sheila - will comment and fill you in on the details in the meantime!
A tired but very pleased and proud Papa S.

Dear Curt, truly it was an evening that inspired awe. It's two days later and I still have trouble finding adequate words to describe the elation I felt. The incredible intimacy of the Motley Bird only served to heighten the emotions I think everyone was feeling. I read the CDAN review, and couldn't agree more with GL's impressions of Tuesday night. This was the first time I'd had the pleasure of experiencing a truly acoustic set; it was a beautiful, haunting, soaring example of the way music should sound. Your voice filled the room, Nick's harmonies gave me chills, and Charlton and Doug were masterful as ever. Your crew did a superb job in assuring that everything was perfect. I think the thing that made the biggest impression on me is that the four of you appeared to be truly enjoying yourselves. No soulful melody in the world is more important than the smile on a man's face when he is embracing his children.
On a personal note, I would just like to impress upon you again the sheer appreciation I (and I'm sure, the other four Kooks) felt at your willingness to open your special time to us. You didn't have to do it, but you did. Thank you for your inimitable patience with us, taking the time to say goodbye after what I'm sure was a very long day for you. You graciously posed for pictures, and made us feel as welcome guests in your world. I also cannot get over how nice and affable Nick was. He seemed genuinely at ease, and it was a true pleasure to speak with him. Though I did not have the opportunity to talk with Charlton or Doug, I can be almost certain that they too would have been wonderful.
In closing, I would also like to address two lovely young ladies who, by their hands, made it possible for me to experience that evening in the first place. D and W, thank you from deep down--you helped make Tuesday night an evening I hope to never forget.
Es and Zs all over the place!

I am totally amazed with you Curt! You are such a wonderful person, kind, gentle, caring, soft spoken lovely man. I didn't know what to expect when I arrived (never done this kind of thing before). It was very personal; it felt like I was in a friends home and everyone was welcomed. Curt, your voice is so magical, beautiful, wonderful, smooth, and sensual. I was totally amazed all night. All of the songs you sang were total amazing, (Cover us, Seven of Sundays, Mad World, Coming out, Halfway Pleased, EWTRTW and Yellow) One of my favorite highlights was when you sang Yellow to your girls it was so touching; there was not a dry eye in the loft. Curt you did not hide your emotions and that was so touching to me. This will be etched in my heart forever. Thank you Curt for such a lovely evening.

I want a magical evening with Curt, too. Wah. Come back down to the Big Easy Papa C, and we'll take you dancing. You didn't leave my lovely NOLA without a dance, did you? Suzanne, what are we gonna do? Gotta see Papa Smith live again.
Katy, what in the world did you bring him??? Sounds like it was an amazing evening, and aside from being green with envy, I'm happy for the 5 kooks who were able to be there (yes, really...)
just saying my prayers that Papa Smith feels the need to come east and share with those of us who couldn't drop and run. We'd love to share too...

Hey Curt, and everyone! I just got home, finally, safely, with just a few delays... I'm a little tired... Fifteen hours total on a plane in two days for three and a half hours at Curt's party... was it worth it? OH YEAH!! Wow. What more can I say? Thank you, Curt, for a magical evening that I will never forget. Amazing after all these years to finally meet you (and hug you!). And it was truly wonderful to meet the other Kooks, some of whom I've been emailing with for months now! I was certainly one of those with tears in my eyes more than once... I will blog and post pictures as soon as I can... and yeah, sorry about those crabs! *grin* Big hugs! Katy
Many, many Thanks for an evening that remains simply impossible to adequately describe. I'm not quite sure how I got lucky enough to be a part of it, but I'm truly thankful that I was.
Imagine our surprise as early on, we noticed the absence of mics, a mixer, or even speakers! The acoustics were simply superb.
I apologize that I was too painfully shy and quiet to even ask for a photo with Curt, but rest assured, the memories will last a lifetime.
So, Thank You, Curt, for all your music over the years. Truly, the experience of being in attendance while you sang with friends and family was absolutely wonderful. It renews the ties I have with my own friends and family -- I'm forever grateful.
Thanks once again!

Thank you for allowing my wife Rachel and I along with the other great fans we met last night the experience of a lifetime. The best words to describe the experience for me personally would be just like having Curt and his family over to our home and after dinner in the living room Curt without even a microphone available decides to play for us and surprisingly he gives the most heartfelt powerful performance of his career [ I kid you not].When he sang Yellow for his daughter it was the most magical performance I have ever witnessed on stage and it reminded me why I 1st became a huge fan of TFF AND how much I love my own 10 year old daughter, I don't believe anyone in the place didn't have tears in their eyes including Curt and his child.Thank you once again for this great performance Mr. Smith and I hope you at some point decide to do a club tour for this terrific album so others can experience what we did !
